Kaspersky is Banned in the US

WASHINGTON, 30 June 2024 - On Thursday, the Biden administration announced plans to ban the sale of Kaspersky Antivirus software in the U.S. This step follows Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo's statement that Russia's influence over the Kaspersky company poses a significant risk.

The planned ban is based on the following concerns:

1. National Security: The U.S. government is worried about the company's potential ties to the Russian government.
2. Risk of Espionage: There is a fear that Kaspersky could be compelled by Russian authorities to share sensitive information or install malware on American computers.

Giant Mud Crabs in Papua New Guinea

Mud crabs are a delicious crustacean delicacy, and while they are not found everywhere in the world, they have a broad distribution and can be found mainly in the Indo-Pacific region. This includes countries such as the Philippines, Australia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Taiwan, Japan, and Papua New Guinea.

Giant mud crabs, which can grow to a size almost as big as a medium-sized frying pan, are also found in Papua New Guinea. The largest ones are typically found in areas with fewer residents compared to the big cities in Papua New Guinea, like Daru Island.

In such setups, ISPs often employ managed routers, like MikroTik, to handle internet traffic and routing.

How to Extend CAT6 Cable

Laying out CAT6 cables can be an easy process and sometimes, it can be troublesome. Usually, when we are running network cables, we would run them on a cable tray or inside a conduit. When the conduits go through the walls and ceiling, it can be hard to remove and rerun a new cable, especially if the concrete the cable has gone through has been permanently sealed.

For instances when the cables are shorter than what was planned, it may seem tempting to just run a new cable. But the truth is, we can now extend the length of cables without resorting to that or adding a switch hub. If you are interested to know how we did it, please watch the video below.

As a watch repair hobbyist, I rely on this tool to buff away scratches on watch straps, glass, and back covers. For electronics, it's perfect for drilling tiny holes on PCBs for component insertion. Additionally, it can scrape off protective coatings on logic boards, cut plastic casings, plywood, wires, and even screws!

Timegrapher: Is It Worth Buying?

I'm an IT professional who loves working with anything related to programming languages, hardware repair, and troubleshooting. I also have a knack for attempting to repair broken watches, and it has become a habit of mine to collect watches, particularly the mechanical ones.

When you have an affinity for automatic and mechanical watches and collect them, it's important to be able to tell if the mechanism of the watch is still accurate to a few seconds. If not, you may find yourself sometimes wearing a mechanical watch that is either running late or running ahead.

Cheapest Internet in Papua New Guinea

Hi, I'm Glen of Reynaxis Solutions and I've been living as an expat in Papua New Guinea for 13 years now and have tried numerous Internet Service Providers (ISPs). Here are the major players in the telco industry:

1. Digicel: Offers the fastest and most reliable internet connection, though it is a bit pricey compared to its competitors.
2. Telikom: Almost as fast as Digicel but with cheaper data plans.
3. Vodafone: Another option available, but not as widely discussed here.
4. BMobile: Provides services, but details about its performance are less prominent.

In my experience, Digicel stands out for its speed and reliability. However, Telikom is a close second, providing nearly comparable speed at more affordable prices.
